Marae With Grass Decorations

This ancient marae was probably in use well before Europeans visited the Pacific. The missionaries have since converted all the natives to Christianity. We were surprised to find grass decorations on many of these stones. Apparently there was some kind of celebration here just a few days before our visit, so perhaps there are still some remnants of the old traditions still alive.
