"Red sky at morning..." was just the start of another day of unsettled weather along the Malaysian coast. The winds of this area are generally light and variable, with squalls which can come from any direction. There are more consistent winds during the monsoon seasons, but even then the winds do not have the steady strength and direction of "trade winds" found in some other places.
