Some participants in the Thaipusam celebration have hooks in their skin like this man. In this case the hooks pull another man, but some worshippers pull chariots this way. Others attach milk containers to hooks in their skin. Some pierce themselves through their cheeks. Some carry large structures attached to their bodies. The hooks are removed at the hill temple. This aspect of Thaipusam has been banned in some places but not in Penang.
