Bako Headquarters

This is the Headquarters of Bako National Park, on the Bako Peninsula just northeast of Kuching. Most people reach here by small boat from Bako Village, but we anchored offshore and rowed in our dinghy. The yellow end of the sign represents a Hornbill head. Sarawak calls itself "the land of the Hornbill." In our visit to Sarawak we got only one glimpse of a Hornbill. There may still be many in the mountains, but their habitat has been severely impacted and is still diminishing.
