Longhouse on Rejang River

We saw many longhouses along the Rejang River and also along the highways we traveled by bus. This was a fairly common type of village in Sarawak. The style originated with "Sea Dyaks" which sometimes engaged in piracy and headhunting. Their descendents have modern longhouses with corrugated iron roofing, electricity and piped water but may still maintain some old traditions.
