Tanjong City Marina

Marina
Tanjong City Marina is located on the Georgetown waterfront right beside the terminal for ferries to Butterworth on the mainland. It was completed in 2005, and is a government facility. This is an ideal location from which to enjoy historic Georgetown, now designated a "World Heritage" site. Unfortunately, the marina has severe problems so is seldom filled to capacity. It does not have a breakwater to protect it from wakes and waves, so some of the docks have broken away. Cruising boats often suffer significant rolling here, sometimes snapping docklines and breaking cleats. A serious silting problem has made many of the slips unusable despite dredging. The filthy water is full of floating rubbish which a work crew picks up every morning. The "QE2" nightclub (at left in this photo) blasts very loud music on Friday and Saturday nights until 3am. We hope improvements can be made to this marina because the location is wonderful.
