| The canoes had narrow hulls and very narrow outriggers which moved through the water with little resistance. They usually sailed with steady trade winds on a straight course in flat water for several miles. Weight distribution and sail and rudder angles could be adjusted to keep the outrigger flying and speeds near maximum. This sail showed many patches. A new sail was a relatively major investment. |
