Nan Douwas Entrance

This is the main entrance to Nan Douwas. The stones are basalt, quarried from Pohnpei's volcanic rock. Some of the stones are 25 feet long and weigh 50 tons. The walls are constructed in "crisscross pile" fashion, simple and extremely strong, like the Lelu ruins on Kosrae. One legend says a master stonecutter from Kosrae was hired to help construct these walls.
