Hoeing a Field

Hoeing a big field under a hot sun was really hard work, but that was the method in the Burmese countryside. There were no tractors. Some plowing might have been done by oxen or buffalo, but we did not see that. Almost everything was done by hand. It looked beautiful with flowering trees and lacy bamboos bordering the fields, but we did not volunteer to do the work ourselves.
