Threshing Grain

This gang was using a small machine to thresh wheat. This machine was probably the only one used during the entire process of planting, harvesting and processing the crop. We saw other groups threshing by hand without a machine. Wheat required much less water than rice, so could be grown outside the wet season. Much of the work we observed was done in groups. We do not know if the fields were community-owned or if there was just a tradition of helping neighbors.
