Kanak Warriors From New Caledonia

These dancers from Lifou Island in front of the Kanak flag were one of several New Caledonia groups at the Melanesian Arts Festival. Fiji had a few representatives, but Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands didn't send anybody because they could not afford it. This festival is held every four years, and this year it was mainly a showcase for groups from many Vanuatu islands.
