As we approached the city of Fort de France we could see that it was backed by fairly high mountains. The city is tucked into a large bay on the southwest side of Martinique, well-protected from easterly trade winds. The old fort juts into the bay just to the right of the cathedral steeple in this photo. We anchored just to the left of the fort.
