James Mauki and his younger brother Travis are holding gifts from their family to us. The bowl is for turmeric, a spice used in cooking and also (with coconut oil) to decorate faces, arms & bodies. The other gift is a wooden headrest. Ariki Tafua said the headrest could be used as a weapon if attacked in the night.
