Each woman plucks two new leaves and a bud together. She collects a bunch in her hand and then tosses that into the bag on her back. A plucker can gather up to 25 kilograms (55 pounds) of leaves in a day, but less than half that much in the rainy season. In this photo it is clear that much of the weight is carried on a head strap.
